Description
o-Chlorotoluene is a flammable, colorless liquid with an aromatic odor. It is denser than water and poorly soluble in water. Hence sinks in water. o-Chlorotoluene is widely used as a solvent and intermediate in the synthesis of dyes, synthetic rubber; pharmaceuticals; and other organic chemicals. Used as an insecticide, bactericide.

Application
1. o-Chlorotoluene is a solvent and intermediate for organic chemicals and dyes. o-Chlorotoluene is used for permanganate oxidation to give o-chlorobenzoic acid.
2. It is used in the preparation of 3-chloro-4-methylcatechol and 4-chloro-3-methylcatechol.
3. o-Chlorotoluene can be used as a precursor to synthesize aryl coupling products via palladium-catalyzed Negishi cross-coupling. It can also be used in the Buchwald-Hartwig amination to synthesize arylamines.
4. It can also be used as Solvent; synthesis of dyes, pharmaceuticals, and synthetic rubber compounds.
