Potassium hydroxide can be divided into food grade and industrial grade. Among them, industrial grade 99% potassium hydroxide is mainly used in leather, papermaking, printing and dyeing, sewage treatment and other fields; the purity of food grade potassium hydroxide is 95%, 90 %, mainly used in pharmaceutical intermediates, various potassium salts, food additive ingredients, food processing container cleaning, disinfection and other fields.

Potassium hydroxide, also known as caustic potash, molecular formula: KOH, molecular weight: 56.11, is a strong base, highly corrosive, specific gravity 2.044, white powder or flake solid. Solid potassium hydroxide is pure white flaky or massive solid, and liquid potassium hydroxide is light yellow liquid. Soluble in water and ethanol, slightly soluble in ether, soluble in water and release a lot of heat, easily soluble in alcohol and glycerin. The aqueous solution is colorless, neutralizes with acid and is exothermic. This product will not burn, and it will release a large amount of heat when it encounters water and water vapor, forming a corrosive solution. It has all the properties of alkali and has a corrosive effect on fibers, skin, glass, ceramics, etc. It will release heat when it is dissolved or diluted with a concentrated solution; neutralization with inorganic acids can also generate a lot of heat and generate corresponding salts; and Metal aluminum and zinc, non-metallic boron and silicon react to release hydrogen; disproportionation reactions occur with chlorine, bromine, iodine and other halogens. It can precipitate metal ions from aqueous solution to form hydroxide; it can cause saponification reaction of oil to generate corresponding potassium salt of organic acid and alcohol.
