Optical Brightener OB-1 is a benzoxazole-based fluorescent whitening agent with the chemical name 4,4′-Bis(2-benzoxazolyl)stilbene. It is also known as Fluorescent Brightener 393, Optical Brightening Agent OB-1, 2,2′-(1,2-Ethenediyldi-4,1-phenylene)bisbenzoxazole and 1,2-Bis(4-(benzo[d]oxazol-2-yl)phenyl)ethene. CAS 1533-45-5 is widely associated with OB-1 fluorescent brightener products used in polymer and plastic applications.
The product functions as a fluorescent whitening agent by absorbing ultraviolet radiation and converting the absorbed energy into visible blue fluorescence. This optical effect can improve the apparent whiteness, brightness and visual appearance of polymers and finished plastic products.

Applications of Optical Brightener OB-1
1. Primarily used for the whitening of resins such as PVC (rigid), PP, PE, PA, PS, PC, ABS, and PET.
2. Features high heat resistance—the highest among all current fluorescent whitening agents—making it the sole choice for high-temperature plastic processing. It is available in two specifications: green-cast (emitting a bluish light) and yellow-cast (emitting a blue-violet light).
3. Has relatively low weather resistance and is prone to migration.
