Sodium Benzotriazole Applications

Sodium Benzotriazole adsorbs onto metal surfaces, forming a thin film that protects copper, brass, bronze, and other metals from corrosion by the atmosphere and harmful media. Adding trace amounts of BTA-S to cold water prevents the migration of copper ions, which can catalyze the corrosion of metals such as aluminum and iron. In heat transfer media, copper ions can cause microporous corrosion in aluminum. Adding BTA-S to circulating water prevents severe corrosion caused by the catalytic oxidation of ethylene glycol by copper ions. Therefore, it is widely used in cooling systems of solar energy conversion systems, nuclear power plant reactors and power plant boilers, as well as in automotive engine and internal combustion engine cooling systems. BTA-S exhibits a synergistic effect when used in combination with other corrosion inhibitors, enhancing their corrosion inhibition performance.
