N-Butyraldehyde
Butyraldehyde is a colorless, transparent liquid with a suffocating, irritating odor; it is flammable. It is slightly soluble in water and miscible with many organic solvents, including ethanol, ether, acetone, toluene, ethyl acetate, and oils. It irritates the respiratory mucosa.

N-Butyraldehyde Applications
N-Butyraldehyde is an important organic intermediate. Hydrogenation of n-butyraldehyde yields n-butanol; condensation, dehydration, and subsequent hydrogenation produce 2-ethylhexanol; both n-butanol and 2-ethylhexanol are key raw materials for plasticizers. Oxidation of n-butyraldehyde produces n-butyric acid; condensation with formaldehyde produces trimethylolpropane, a plasticizer for synthesizing alkyd resins and a raw material for air-dried oils; condensates with various alcohols serve as solvents in celluloid, resins, rubber, and pharmaceutical products.
N-Butyraldehyde Storage:
Butyraldehyde is easily oxidized and should be kept away from air, stored under nitrogen protection. The warehouse should be well-ventilated, cool, and dry; it should be stored separately from oxidizers and acids, and transported and stored according to regulations for flammable chemicals.
