Diphenylamine is volatile, has an aniline-like odor, and is toxic. Can be used to identify DNA and nitrates. Used to make dyes and explosives. When a concentrated sulfuric acid solution of diphenylamine meets nitrate, a blue precipitate of aniline blue is produced. This method can identify nitrate.
