This product is a light yellow transparent liquid with a slight ethanol odor. It is soluble in ethanol, ketones, benzene, acetonitrile, dimethylformamide, dimethyl sulfoxide, and chlorinated hydrocarbons.

It is commonly used to treat inorganic fillers such as carbon black and SiO2. It functions not only as an activator and coupling agent, but also as a crosslinker, softener, and reinforcing agent. In the rubber industry, it is used as a reinforcing agent and vulcanizer. It can be used with natural rubber, isoprene rubber, styrene-butadiene rubber, butadiene rubber, butyl rubber, chloroprene rubber, butyl rubber, halogenated butyl rubber, EPDM rubber, and their oil-extended rubbers. It can also be used in blends of these rubbers.
