3-Mercaptopropionic Acid is primarily used as an intermediate for the pharmaceutical product Fenalide and as a stabilizer for polyvinyl chloride. Due to its excellent thermal stability, it is suitable for the production of transparent products.

3-Mercaptopropionic Acid can also be used as an antioxidant, catalyst, and biochemical reagent.
