Used for the production of mineral processing agents, metal passivators, resin curing agents for sailing, and rubber vulcanization accelerators.

In the pharmaceutical industry, it is used to produce 1,2-propanediaminetetraacetic acid as an intermediate for the anticancer drug propylimine.
It is also used as a solvent for nitrocellulose, paint, vegetable oil, rosin, etc.
