Description
4,4'-Oxydiphenol is an organic compound that contains a phenolic hydroxyl group. The molecule is
activated by the presence of an election withdrawing group such as a carbonyl or sulfonate. This
activation allows for nucleophilic attack on the carbon-carbon double bond to form a new bond. 4,4'-
Oxydiphenol can also be synthesized from ethane and epichlorohydrin in the presence of a base such as
sodium methoxide. The resulting product is a polyester with resistive properties due to its high molecular
weight and low solubility.
Application of 4,4'-Oxydiphenol
1) 4,4'-Oxydiphenol is used as pharmaceutical intermediates, liquid crystal additives.
2) 4,4'-Oxydiphenol is usded to produce ethoxyilne resin.
